What Sets DoF Apart?

 <li>DoF provides a graphical user interface where you can input parameters through intuitive pointing and dragging actions and view the results instantly. It features a distinctive double-cone visualization to demonstrate blur relative to subject distance.</li>
 <li>DoF goes beyond standard calculations by considering both diffraction and focus blur in determining depth of field, especially crucial for modern high-resolution digital cameras with smaller sensors.</li>
 <li>DoF includes the ability to calculate depth of field based on aperture and focus distance, but its standout feature lies in determining the optimum f-stop and focus distance within a range of distances, accounting for diffraction effects and worst-case scenario blur.</li>
 <li>For macro photography, DoF offers a specialized Macro mode that calculates depth of field by evaluating the field of view at the subject distance, ultimately deriving magnification and depth of field values.</li>
 <li>Incorporating a Focus Stacking mode, DoF guides users on increasing depth of field through the merging of multiple images focused at various distances.</li>
 <li>DoF accurately predicts the level of blur present at different distances in your images. Its reference manual features a series of images demonstrating distinct levels of blur.</li>

Understanding Circle of Confusion

To accurately compute depth of field, one must specify the circle of confusion size, determining the acceptable amount of blur in images - a pivotal aspect influencing image sharpness. DoF offers control over all circle of confusion parameters via the Camera dialog, with an extensive discussion available in the reference manual.
